To simplify designations, they are known in general to collectors as, "56-X-212", after the Russian design or simply "6X2", (in line with the later designs), or even more simply as "AK47" bayonets as they will only fit on the AK47 design rifles. These small variations are what allow us to identify them as to country of manufacture or issue. There are only small differences in design, materials and construction. These original bayonets are all pretty much the same design regardless of where they were made. A bayonet was designed, and the front sight assembly was redesigned to be able to mount it. ![]() ![]() At some point after production was started it was decided to add the ability to have a bayonet. The original AK47 rifles were not designed to mount a bayonet. Yes, the original design for this bayonet was 56-X-212.
